North Carolina Dog and Cat Rescue
We will not 'ship' animals to you. You will either have to collect them or we may be able to work with you to arrange transport if you can comply with our adoption conditions. We are in a poor rural area and there are often more adoption opportunities for dogs elsewhere. Many of the dogs that end up at animal control are surrendered or dumped because they need medical treatment. We cannot pass on a sick dog so we have to get them vetted first. Most often we are the ones who have the dogs neutered, treated for heartworm, etc.
Why do I need to pay for a puppy? We do not have a rich benefactor to support saving these dogs lives, we rely on donations from the public. The pups have to be inspected by a vet, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped before they can leave the shelter. More people are interested in puppies so we charge for them to provide funds for the older dogs that require expensive medication E.g. for removing heartworm infestation. What can you do to help?
